Stroke

Welcome to the stroke services webpage of the NHS Somerset website, designed to give you information about the stroke rehabilitation and life after stroke services offered by NHS Somerset and Somerset Community Health.

NHS Somerset commissions services from Somerset Community Health to provide stroke services for those people who have had a stroke and their relatives and carers.  Stroke rehabilitation is provided in one of the three stroke rehabilitation units in the county, following transfer from an acute hospital.

Stroke rehabilitation specialist beds are provided in the following community hospitals (please click link):

NHS Somerset are also in the process of building a new community hospital in South Petherton, on the old hospital site.  The new hospital will include a specialist 16-bed in patient community stroke unit for stroke rehabilitation and outpatient services.  Services are due to open in the summer of 2011.

Somerset Community Health provide information on stroke services via their website, along with information on stroke co-ordinators, stroke risk factors and useful links.  To access this information please see the stroke page on the Somerset Community Health website.
